Christmas, the wonderful time of year that we all love. Of course, this year will be completely different than any other Christmas in our lives. The holiday parties, dinners, special lunches with friends and family will be nearly nonexistent. We must find new ways to celebrate not only the holy season but keeping in touch with family and friends.
I was thinking that I have been guilty of seeing some of my friends only at Christmas. For the past 20 years I have hosted a Christmas crab feed for about 16 close friends. Well, the crab feed has been cancelled due to the virus. I realized that I need to touch base with these friends in some other meaningful manner. In the past few days two close friends have died unexpectedly. I have not seen them since the last Christmas crab feed. The lesson that I am learning, do not let time go by without just thinking about dear friends and loved ones, call them. I do not mean a text or a Christmas card, but a real voice-to-voice contact. Let these precious people know how much you miss their hugs and gentle touches.
I recently read an article that reminded me that the Spring and Summer of our lives are celebrated but go by so quickly. I thought that the friends that I recently lost had been in my life for over 30 years. I assumed they would be with me for the Winter of my life too. Winter is here for me and if not for you yet, remember to celebrate people through all of life’s seasons. Celebrate Christmas with kind deeds and loving words. If you can, stay safe – share kindness and love. Let your people know that you cherish and love them.
