We have just experienced an amazing few months at the Club. If you have not been back to the Club since we reopened, then it’s time to come and feel the warmth, the enthusiastic greetings and camaraderie. Members and guests are leaving the evening events with the best attitude. I soci e gli ospiti stanno lasciando gli eventi serali con il miglior atteggiamento. The Colombo Club with all its history gives the members a moment to step back in time and be part of promoting and preserving our Italian culture.
It was written that the Colombo Club’s first cook, Marco Roggero’s attention to both quality and quantity would be the standard for all later head chefs. This is so true of our head cook, John Tandi. At 90 years old, one would think he would just take some time off, but John continues to enjoy life making some of the most epic pasta dishes for our members and guests that I can remember. A 90 anni si potrebbe pensare che si prenda un po ‘di tempo libero, ma John continua a godersi la vita facendo alcuni dei piatti di pasta più epici per membri e ospiti che ricordo. It just keeps getting better. If for no other reason, just come down to the Club and eat, and thank John for his amazing contribution to the 101 year old Colombo Club. Speaking of 101 years, make sure you get your reservations in to dance the night away at the 100+1 anniversary parties on August 21st and on August 28th. Some of the Club’s best food and beverage will be highlighting both those evenings.
On August 21, you can dance off the calories to the Jeff Wessman Band. Playing the swing hits of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darrin, Tony Bennett, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, just to name a few, backed up with an 18-piece orchestra. Thank You to our very active member, Mark Amaro owner of General Plumbing, for being a large part of the sponsorship, so the Club can afford this entertainment. Then on August 28, you will be able to enjoy the music of the Dennis Cruda band. Dennis’s family has a long history with the Club and Dennis has donated the services of his band to help us celebrate our anniversary. The ballroom will truly come alive on both nights and highlight our amazing stage and dance floor. I can only imagine how happy my dad would be to dance the evening away with my mom and knowing that since the event is adults only, he would not have to worry about me sliding under them on the dance floor. Posso solo immaginare quanto sarebbe felice mio padre di ballare la sera via con mia madre e sapendo che solo i suoi adulti non sarei scivolato sotto di loro sulla pista da ballo. So, make sure you get your reservation as there are only a few tickets left to both memorable evenings of celebration.
When I sit and try to communicate through writing these letters, most of the time I fall back on memories, but I think age does that to you. I then take a moment and pause to think how lucky we truly are to have those memories. It is our responsibility as members to continue to create those memories for the next generation to remember. È nostra responsabilità, in quanto membri, continuare a creare quei ricordi da ricordare per la prossima generazione. Come to the Club. Be active. Get on the board. Make a difference. Help the memories continue.
